Ƶ will hold its Spring 2016 Commencement ceremonies for the Ƶ Campus on Friday, May 13, and Saturday, May 14, at the Memorial Athletic and Convocation (MAC) Center, and on Friday, May 20, at Cartwright Hall. Ƶ State will confer 4,210 degrees, including 3,067 bachelor’s degrees, 968 master’s degrees, 169 doctoral degrees and six educational specialist degrees. On Friday, April 15, the Division of Human Resources launched its spring/summer walk-and-talk series. The subject matter of the day was “pollinators.” The pollinator walk was led by zoology major Jen Giles. Roughly 40 faculty and staff members attended the lunchtime walk, which included a visit to the campus greenhouse, monarch butterfly garden and discussion about the different types of daffodils in bloom during the walk. Students from Ƶ State East Liverpool’s occupational therapy assistant program gathered at the downtown entrance ramp to the city to help spruce up the “serpentine” landscape of that area by pulling weeds, trimming shrubs, raking mulch and picking up litter. They joined efforts with the East Liverpool-Calcutta Garden Club members, who maintain that area of the city’s landscape. In 2014, less than four years after Continental and United announced that the airlines were merging operations, the newly expanded United shut down its hub at Cleveland Hopkins Airport. Since that time, the number of nonstop flights from the airport has dwindled from 58 to 15 – a nearly 75 percent decrease in two years. The Ƶ State Salem Campus paid tribute to community members, faculty, students and staff who are U.S. military veterans during a flag raising ceremony at the new front entrance to the building. Under a beautiful blue sky and with a crisp breeze, members of the Salem AMVETS Post 45 honor guard raised the U.S. flag while Peggy Elliott, a member of the Communiversity Choir, sang the national anthem.
