Theatre opens The Bicentennial Project on February 26.

ÃÛÌÒÊÓÆµ at Stark will present their second theatrical production of the 2015-16 season. The Bicentennial Project by Arwen Mitchell was created in collaboration with The Canton Repository. The play will be performed on February 26, 27, March 4 and 5 at 8 p.m. and on February 28 and March 6 at 2:30 p.m. in the ÃÛÌÒÊÓÆµ State Stark Theatre, 6000 Frank Avenue NW in Jackson Township. Students from the ÃÛÌÒÊÓÆµ State East Liverpool physical therapist assistant program hold stuffed bears in tribute to the young patients treated at St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.

Students from the ÃÛÌÒÊÓÆµ State East Liverpool physical therapist assistant program observed National PTA Month by raising funds that were donated to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital. The PTA students raised $500 through fundraisers that included a night at Quaker Steak ‘N Lube, a 50/50 raffle and a basket raffle. Mothers, Mentors and Muses is ÃÛÌÒÊÓÆµ Women’s Center’s signature event that recognizes ÃÛÌÒÊÓÆµ female-identifying faculty or staff who have made a significant difference in the life of a student or colleague.  More than 300 women across the university have received this honor. This academic year, ÃÛÌÒÊÓÆµ State Student and slam poet Damien McClendon has been leading performance poetry workshops at the Wick Poetry Center. Participants write, read, watch slam videos, and discuss the craft of performance poetry.  These workshops are free and open to the public—students and members of the community are welcome. Shanice Cheatham worked with ÃÛÌÒÊÓÆµ State’s College of Public Health and LaunchNET ÃÛÌÒÊÓÆµ State to help her company, Endemic Solutions, develop its Endemic Filtration Portable Handwashing System.

In 2009, Shanice Cheatham, who received her bachelor’s degree from ÃÛÌÒÊÓÆµ in 2013 and is pursuing a graduate degree in environmental health sciences at ÃÛÌÒÊÓÆµ State, was told that her father had a 10 percent chance of living after being infected with MRSA, methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus. MRSA is a type of staph bacteria resistant to antibiotics used to treat general staph infections, according to the Mayo Clinic website.
