Two significant environmental issues our nation faces today include invasive plant species and a lack of sustainable materials. Invasive plant species are detrimental to host environments by flushing out native species and consuming excessive amounts of resources, and the lack of sustainable materials contributes to the ongoing struggle with pollution our planet faces. The protected prairie surrounding ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵ’s Warren Student Recreation and Wellness Center will be burned on Friday, April 29, starting around 9 a.m., to allow for new growth during the summer season. The city of ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵ Fire Department will conduct the controlled burning of the prairie, which has been a yearly practice since 2004. The prairie burn on April 29 is dependent on the weather and the ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵ Fire Department not being called to an emergency. Throughout his freshman and sophomore years, ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵ finance major and Honors College student Dylan Mace honed his leadership skills by serving as president of both the university Interfraternity Council and Delta Tau Delta Fraternity. He also served as an officer of the ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵ State Financial Management Association and a member of the Business Professionals’ Roundtable. Arla Dee McPherson was a beloved member of the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry here at ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵ for almost 30 years, having retired in 2012. She served as Senior Secretary to the Assistant Chair, and is remembered as a wonderful colleague and trusted friend.
