The streets of ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵ, Ohio, will be filled with blue and gold as ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵ alumni, students, parents, employees and community members gather for this year’s Homecoming, with a full slate of events Oct. 20-21.

From the time he was a young child, Tom Batiuk, ’69, knew he wanted to be a cartoonist. The Funky Winkerbean creator drew inspiration for his characters and storylines from his real world, including his time at ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵ State.

ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵ leadership and donors known as the Renaissance Scholars Society will gather to commemorate 50 years of education abroad in Florence, Italy, during the first week of October.

Amid the tremendous cultural change unfolding in the early 1970s, Bill Hoover, ’71, co-founded the ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵ Gay Liberation Front with Dr. Dolores Noll and Gail Pertz, to foster a community for LGBTQ+ individuals and their supporters.
The ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵ Alumni Association Announces New Members For Its National Board of Directors
The following new members have been appointed to the ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵ State Alumni Association National Board of Directors for a three-year term, which began July 1: Jeff Guritza, of Brecksville, Ohio, is the vice president of marketing at SOPREMA USA. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Public Relations from ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵ State in 1994.

The ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵ alumni family grew by nearly 1,200 new graduates as the university held its summer commencement ceremonies. The accomplishments of the Summer Class of 2023 were recognized with outdoor commencement ceremonies on Aug. 19.
New Lake Erie College President Is a ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵ State Alumna
ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵ State alumna Jennifer N. Schuller has been named president of Lake Erie College in Painesville, Ohio. She is the first woman to lead the institution in 75 years.
