Ƶ State to Honor Veterans on Nov. 9

Ƶ will hold its annual Veterans Day observance on Wednesday, Nov. 9, at 11 a.m. on the Student Green at Risman Plaza.

The outdoor program, Honoring All Who Serve, will include a flag-raising ceremony conducted by a joint color guard from the university’s Army and Air Force ROTC programs, remarks from Ƶ State President Beverly Warren and guest speakers. Retired Petty Officer 1st Class Mark Gainer, who currently serves as president of the Ƶ State Veterans Club, will be the guest speaker.

All are invited to come and pay tribute to America’s veterans. A special invitation is extended to Ƶ State faculty, staff, students and community members who are veterans, active service members or who have family members in the military.

A reception in the Ƶ Student Center Kiva lobby will follow the brief program. In the event of inclement weather, the rain location will be the Ƶ Student Center Kiva.

Dance Program Alumna is New Ƶ State Dance Team Coach

Ƶ alumna Jordan Petersen-Fitts is the university’s new Dance Team coach. Petersen-Fitts not only went to Ƶ State, but also was a member of the Ƶ State Dance Team during her time as a student. Petersen-Fitts is founder of the dance outreach program, Art Sparks, founded in 2012, and is co-owner of the Cuyahoga Falls Dance Center, along with her mother Beverly Petersen-Fitts, who is a part-time dance instructor at Ƶ State.

Porthouse Theatre Summer Continues 2013 Season With“Working,” July 4-20

Porthouse Theatre, Ƶ's outdoor, summer theater on the grounds of Blossom Music Center, continues its 2013 season with "Working." The show will run July 4-20. "Working" is based on the book by Studs Terkel and was adapted for stage by Stephen Schwartz and Nina Faso. Jim Weaver directs and choreographs this production, with musical direction by Adam Howard, costume design by Susan Williams and set design by Nolan O'Dell.

Ƶ State Hosts Statewide Conference for Student-Veterans and College Administrators

Ƶ will host the third annual Serving Those Who Serve conference on Thursday, July 11, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Ƶ Hotel and Conference Center, located at 215 S. Depeyster St. in downtown Ƶ, Ohio. The conference brings together student-veterans and administrators from colleges and universities in Ohio and neighboring states to discuss the needs of veterans on their campuses.
